Ron Buzzell, owner of Dreamworks Antiques &
Collectibles spent sixteen years building houses in New England. In
October of 1997 he climbed down off his ladder and began following in his father's
and grandfather’s footsteps by starting his antique business.
Dreamworks specializes in
professionally refinished antique furniture, a skill he learned as a child while
helping his dad & granddad. They both owned antique stores in NH, also
specializing in refinished antique furniture. While most of us were
attending to chores such as taking out the trash and cleaning our rooms, Ron was
re-gluing and sanding furniture!
Ron continues to carry on the
pride found in the craftsmanship of days gone by in the furniture he refinishes
and is committed to making integrity a staple in his business.
Back in the day, when his
family was in the business, they attended an antique show every month held at
Boston’s famous Fanueil Hall. While his parents sold their fine
furniture, Ron wore a different hat, becoming the show's snow cone vendor.
It is true that, on occasion,
when the temperatures are 100 degrees in the sun, a snow cone business has its
appeal, however, it is clear when looking at his finished product and recalling
he wore more snow cones than he sold, that he has made the right choice!
Since Ron spent many years
building people their Dream Homes, he decided to call the antique business
Dreamworks – the “works” to fill up those dream homes. At its
inception the plan was to travel around to various antique shows and spend the
off time buying and refinishing antiques.
However, over the years he
acquired a large following of customers who expressed an interest in a store
where they could come and see the antiques. In 2002, Ron purchased a
property in Tamworth, N.H.
The property built in 1850
was originally known as the “Three Trees Inn” & served as a boarding
house during the civil war. Letters, written by a male nurse for the North
and sent to his wife who was a boarder at the Inn, were actually found in the
floor boards.
The town of Tamworth has all
the aesthetics that you think of when spending the day out antiquing. It
was summer home of President Grover Cleveland, and his son started the
Barnstormers Theatre, the oldest running summer theatre in America. It has
a lovely Doctor’s and Farm Museum and you can visit the “Other Store”
where you can still buy breakfast and manure all under the same roof!!!
The store is expected to open
this summer, 2006. A lot of hard work needed to be put into the property
prior to the store opening. Lumber from the original carriage house on the
property will be used in construction of the store. Also 150+ years old,
the carriage house itself could not withstand being relocated, so it was
dismantled and will be completely incorporated into the store.
